Sculptural Stairwell Feature
Hills Road Sixth Form College
A celebratory commission for the new Art and Design Centre at Hills Road Sixth Form College. The sculpture aims to leap through the stairwell creating a visual tension and variety for regular uses of the space. Fabricated from light weight aluminium and translucent and opaque fabrics the structure responds to the characteristics of the space.
Funded by a successful National Lottery grant application, the project was designed and constructed in collaboration with a group of GNVQ students from the college. I introduced the students to the considerations of working site specifically as well as helping them push the perceptions about working sculpturally with fabric based media.
